There are almost a million reasons why this is the most powerful marketing opportunity you will ever have.

And up to 949,000 of those reasons will experience your product or service in person!

In 2010 the Safer Home Standards Society (SHSS), partnered with ASTTBC,BC Housing, Science World, Vancouver Resource Society, National Resource Council and the Centre for Sustainable Communities Canada, will open the doors on the BARGE Project.

A stunning 2400 square foot SAFERhome will be built on a barge about the size of an urban lot and be moored in False Creek outside of Telus World of Science for six months leading up to and during the 2010 Olyimpics. SHSS and our sponsors will promote and showcase a safer and sustainable housing solution for the world’s families.

This exciting project will provide educational displays of sustainable technologies inside Telus World of Science, and then allow visitors to view these technologies in a finished setting as they tour the home. Families will learn about commonsense safety, aging in place, technological innovations, and value added real estate investment solutions.

Women make 85% of all the home and home related purchasing decisions, but it’s not only women who benefit from a better and safer standard of living. It is women and their families who are our target audience. With SAFERhome guidelines and your help we will set the standard for the future.

This amazing project includes the construction of the most technologically advanced home in the world today! The house will feature the SAFERhome guidelines, and this common sense approach to building will substantially increase the market value of the home, and ensure the ultimate in functionality, livability and esthetic appeal available to today’s home buying consumer. This home will highlight BC’s innovative, green home building strategies and environmental technologies on an international scale. The world will embrace this concept and your product or service along with it.

Telus World of Science’s annual attendance is approximately 460,000. Those numbers are expected to increase to between 649,000 and 949,000 due to the barge’s location, advertising, media coverage and involvement with the World Urban Forum. this United Nations event. Over 10,000 possible delegates including urban planners from around the world will convene at WUF to “exchange information, insights and best practices on the challenges of building safe and healthy sustainable communities’ world wide.” The BARGE Project will be a main feature of WUF and will position your product or service as an industry leader with this prestigious group.

The eyes of the world will focus on the home and its sponsors during The 2010 Games. The Olympic Committee has already included the SAFERhome concept into the guidelines for construction of its housing developments, such as The South East False Creek Project (SEFC) which is adjacent to The BARGE and will be the site of one of the housing projects for Olympic Athletes.

Sustainable building practices are fast becoming a reality and a necessity as the world’s population grows and ages. Statistics show that by the year 2030, 75% of North Americans will be 65 years of age or older, which means homes and home related products/services must meet the changing needs of our society. It is a fact that we are rapidly depleting our resources and must revisit the materials and processes we use to construct our homes. SHSS and our sponsors will be providing innovative solutions for this problem. The BARGE Project will create spin-off interest from the construction industry and in the general population, raise awareness about new design and building standards, and establish a higher baseline of home quality and lifestyle options. The BARGE Project will clearly demonstrate to builders and consumers the ease of applying the SAFERhome program and the great, esthetic results of the SAFERhome standards.

No other marketing tool has the potential to create this level of branding and top-of-mind awareness in a single package: Power Smart, Blue boxes, CSA (Canadian Standards Association.) Just as these programs improve our lives today, SAFERhome standards and their sponsoring partners will improve our lives tomorrow.
